Marshall County Health Department

Meet the Marshall County Health Department Director

Welcome to our website. We hope you find it to be a useful resource.

The Marshall County Health Department will contribute to building and maintaining a healthy community by promoting healthy life styles and promoting a healthy environment for all residents. We are committed to strong community partnerships and modeling the values of accountability, collaboration, excellence, integrity, and science. We continue to work toward nationally accredited status through the Public Health Accreditation Board.

In 2015, we partnered with the Marshall County Hospital and the University of Kentucky to host a community health assessment. We received over 800 survey responses, and developed, with help from our partners, the Marshall County Health Coalition and Community Health Improvement Plan. The Coalition continues to grow through engagement of new partners and a strong, shared commitment to the good health of our residents. Over the next three years we will focus on change in the areas of obesity, substance abuse and behavioral health. The Kentucky Department for Public Health led a statewide Health Assessment in the spring of 2017 with over 125 local, regional, and state partners represented. Our local initiatives and the Health Department’s strategic plan are in line with Kentucky’s Health Improvement Plan. Working together, we hope to improve the health of all Kentuckians.

Out of 120 counties in Kentucky, Marshall County moved up in the 2016 County Health Rankings to 7th in Health Factors (representing tomorrow’s health) and 8th in Health Outcomes (representing today’s health). While this is great news for Marshall County and the good work being done here, Kentucky remains at the bottom of national health rankings. We are committed to doing our part in Kentucky’s health improvement. Please join us by getting involved with health improvement initiatives at the local or state level.

This website is a tool to assist you in achieving and maintaining good health. You will find a listing and explanation of our services and contact information for our departments. We value your input and hope you will take time to let us know how we are doing when you visit by completing a comment card in our reception area. We hope to see you soon.
In good health,

Laura Hawes-Hammons
Director
